A slip rating is a test result, not a material property. Understanding what the R scale measures keeps you from over-specifying a dry lobby or under-specifying a wet bathroom.

What R9 and R10 actually measure
The R scale comes from the ramp test: an oiled surface is tilted until a test walker slips. R9 holds to a lower angle, R10 to a steeper one. Higher means more grip under contamination, not more roughness to the touch.

When R10 is required and when it is wasted
Wet entries, pool surrounds, commercial kitchens and public bathrooms justify R10 or higher with documentation. A dry showroom floor does not need it. matching the rating to the space saves money and keeps cleaning simple.
Always ask for the test report attached to your shade, not a generic brand certificate. We supply slip data per series before the spec is signed.
